Washingtonias in Love

Bent Washingtonia Robusta palm

Technically this type of palm is a Washingtonia Robusta. Indeed it is robust. Moreover, these Washingtonias appear to be in love--Washingtonias in love. As the hefty mid-century man Jackie Gleason himself said "how sweet it is."

Gleason was a regular on the Bob Hope Classic Golf Tournament, which takes place near Palm Springs.
So much for that off-the-subject diversion.

We were talking about Washingtonia Robustas, right? Well, those trees can grow in awkward ways. When they like each other they lean toward one-another. When they don't like each other, the Washingtonia Roustas curve apart. Okay, so this assumption may or may not be true, but the images sure seem to indicate it.

Now, I've researched the Internet to come up with an the answer to: Why do a few Washingtonia Robostas curve when they grow?

Anyone got any answers or speculations?
