Are these dead Talapias causing the foul odor in Palm Springs? |
I speculated, as many have, that it's from the annual fish kill that happens in the Salton Sea during the summer when grueling desert temperatures can fry an egg on a sidewalk.
An anonymous visitor commented that the smell might be due to the a once-40-foot high toxic compost pile in Mecca. The EPA was supposed to take care of it, but evidently the smelly mountain has only been cut in half.
Chatter has it that it's a big challenge to close down toxic dump areas in poor communities, hence the delay.
The big question is if the smell we are now experiencing has drifted (along with the dead fish odor) into Palm Springs via a southeasterly monsoonal wind.
What are your thoughts?
