How many blonde dates have you had?

It's the most wonderful time of the year....in the desert. It's date harvest time! Go up and down Highway 111 in Indio and you'll find the chewest dates you've ever had. Succulant and delicious.

After a long hot summer when temperatures soared to 110 degrees every day, nascent dates--hard and light green--adorned the date palms all over the valley.

Now these dates are brown and squishy-sweet. Great food with great nutrition. Just don't swallow the pits.
